On January 1, 2023, the Department of Energy’s new minimum efficiency standards will go into effect. These changes will impact the minimum efficiency requirements for all new split air conditioners, heat pumps, packaged units, and ductless. In addition, a new, more rigorous testing standard will be introduced that will produce new efficiency rating metrics. The new changes are part of continued efforts to reduce energy consumption in the United States.
